The dragon slayer.

I’ve been sitting on this idea for a while now.

The idea of the “dragon slayer”.

Oftentimes, we conceptualize the dragon as an external force.

Symbolically they have come to represent some seemingly insurmountable, giant hurdle that we must overcome.

But I’ve been thinking about it lately and I’ve come to realize that, the hardest fight of one’s life will always be the internal fight, the war within one’s self.

For dragons don’t always terrorize the skies, they often lurk deep inside the dark caves of the psyche as well.

To “slay the dragon” can mean to overcome the difficult tasks that life throws at us, certainly.

But to eternally put the beast to rest means to transcend your self, clear your ego, and work to become the version of you that you know you could be.

That is the internal battle. The never ending battle.

So do the tough thing, make the change, start the good habits, let go of bad ones and you’ll wear down the beast eventually.

Over time you’ll gain enough confidence to recognize when the Hydra is sprouting a new head. And you’ll quickly slice it off and cauterize the trauma before two new heads sprout in its stead…

To win the fight is to cut off the immortal head of the beast, and hide it under a boulder for eternity. A herculean task certainly, but one I imagine most rewarding.

Until your last breath.
